when one of the 7 group reds came in to land yesterday about 4:45pm bst it put its landing gear back up and rejoined left hand circuit and landing on its second attempt?

Hi Mitch. This 'missed approach' does happen from time to time, and happens if the pilot thinks there is not enough clearance between him ( or her! ) and the jet in front. They simply peel off and go around.
Have to agree though, that it does look worrying the first time you see it!

So annoyed that I missed the arrival yesterday. I'm right in thinking that the display finishes with 7 aircraft and synchro departing before the end, hence the arrival of 7 as a group?
